about

"La pansè" of 1955 was censured on radio and television in Latin America. Many public places put up a sign saying: “In this establishment ‘La Pansé’ nor other trivialities are performed.
The song is filled with wordplays. In Italian "pansé" is a flower, the pansy, but soundwise it also refers to "pancia”, the (under)belly. "Me la dai?" literally means Will you give it to me? While in Italian the very similar "Me l'ha data" means “I have had sex with her”. Hence, to say "me la dai?" would be a like a rude sexual proposal.
The phrase is repeated several times but in the end adds "tu pansé (your pansy)" as if to say that the flower is all he wants.

“Chella lá” tells of the joy of a man who was able to get rid of a love that kept him "chained" and now is enjoying his freedom; The sky is bluer and the sun shines more. The woman tries to make up by sending a note with the daughter of the concierge, but he does not care anymore; He takes a truly beautiful woman while she will remain a spinster.

Scapricciatiello

In 1954, when the Piedigrotta was still alive, composers and singers went to the home of the Bideri on the piazza Miraglia to present their new songs. Aurelio Fierro and his young fiancé, Marisa, coming down the stairs, heard the echo of a song played on the piano.
Marisa said, "It's beautiful, it fits you." When they entered, they found the master Ferdinando Albano, the author of so many great works, playing the last notes. The song was jugded by zia Valentina Bideri who was tapping the rhythm with her foot in a sign of approval. She loved the song, but Tulio Pane, for whom it was written, did not want to sing it. He thought it suffered from cuteness, like the insipid <scapricciatiello mio, vattenne a casa si nun vuò ì ngalera, int'a stu mese..>
"Oh you, capricious guy, go home if you don't want to go to jail this month."
He said, "I do not sing jacket songs". Aurelio and Marisa looked at each other and decided there and then to take advantage of this refusal. And so began the victorious campaign to lay hold of the Scapricciatiello. Fierro decided to lighten the tone of the crude lyrics by Pacifico Vento. He sang Scapricciatiello in San Ferdinando, in the room of Eduardo De Filippo where they called for repeats. Where possible he substituted the smile for the tear mellowing the traditional Neapolitan song.
The second time he sang it, at the festival of Portacapuana, he had to repeat it five times. It was then that he decided to become a singer full-time.
When Marisa heard a boy on a bike whistling the song, she knew Fierro had won.
In 1955 Aurelio Fierro toured the United States and Canada for the first time, where he received the title of "Mister Scapricciatiello".

lyrics

LA PANSÉ

Ogni giorno cambi un fiore
e lo appunti in petto a te...
Stamattina, sul tuo cuore,
ci hai mettuto una pansé...

E perché ce l'hai mettuta?
se nun sbaglio l'ho capito...
Mi vuoi dire, o bella fata,
che tu pensi sempro a me...

Ah!
Che bella pansé che tieni,
che bella pansé che hai...
me la dai?
me la dai?
me la dai la tua pansé?

Io ne tengo un'altra in petto
e le unisco tutt'e due:
Pansé mia e pansé tua...
in ricordo del nostro amor!

Questo sciore avvellotato,
tanto caro io lo terrò...
Quando si sará ammosciato,
io me lo conserverò....

Ci ha tre petali, tesoro,
e ogneduno ci ha un pensiero...
sono petali a colori:
uno giallo e due marrò...

Ah!....
Che bella pansé che tieni,
che bella pansé che hai...
me la dai?
me la dai?
me la dai la tua pansé?

Tu sei come una fraffalla
che svolacchia intorno a me...
Poi ti appuoi sulla mia spalla
con il pietto e la pansé...

Io divento un mammalucco,
poi ti vaso sulla bocca
e mi sembra un tricchi-tracco
questo vaso che do a te!

Ah!....
Che bella pansé che tieni,
che bella pansé che hai...
me la dai?
me la dai?
me la dai la tua pansé?

Io ne tengo un'altra in petto
e le unisco tutt'e due:
Pansé mia e pansé tua...
in ricordo del nostro amor!

CHELLA LA

St'ammore me teneva 'ncatenato
ma ho detto basta e mi so' liberato
me pare cchiù turchino 'o cielo
me pare cchiù lucente 'o sole
e 'o core canta p''a felicità.
Chella llà, chella llà
mo' va dicenno 'ca me vo' lassà
se crede 'ca me faccio 'o sangue amaro*
se crede 'ca 'mpazzisco e po' me sparo
chella llà, chella llà
nun sape che piacere 'ca me fa
me ne piglio nata cchiù bella
e zitella restarra'
chella llà, chella llà, chella llà!

Ajere m'ha mandato nu' biglietto
p' 'a figlia d''o purtiere di rimpetto
me scrive c' 'a nun e' felice
e c'a vurria cu me fa pace
ma io me sto gustanno 'a libertà.
Chella llà, chella llà
mo' va dicenno 'ca me vo' lassà
se crede ca me faccio 'o sangue amaro
se crede 'ca 'mpazzisco e po' me sparo
chella llà, chella llà
nun sape che piacere 'ca me fa
me ne piglio nata cchiu' bella
e zitella restarrà
chella llà, chella llà, chella llà!

Chella llà, chella llà
nun sape che piacere 'ca me fa
me ne piglio nata cchiu' bella
e zitella restarra'
chella llà, chella llà, chella llà
Chella llà, chella llà, chella llà
chella llà, chella llà, chella llà
chella llà, chella llà, chella llà.

SCAPRICCIATELLO

"Scapricciatiellu mio, vatténne â casa
si nun vuó' jí 'ngalèra, 'int'a stu mese..."
Comme te ll'aggi''a dí ca nun è cosa?!
Chella nun è pe' te... chella è na 'mpesa!
Che vène a dí ch'è bella cchiù 'e na rosa
si po' te veco 'e chiagnere annascuso?
Lássala, siente a me, ca nun è cosa!
Tu, p' 'a bionda, si' troppo onesto:
chella è fatta pe' ll'ommo 'nzisto...
Alluntánate 'a 'sta "maésta"
ca te pierde, figlio 'e mammá...
Nun 'o vvide ca te repassa?
Te ciancéa cu ciento mosse...
T' 'o ffá credere e po' te lassa:
Te fa perdere 'a libertá!
Tutt' 'e mmatine, mamma, dint' 'a cchiesa,
prega, pe' te, 'a Madonna e nun repòsa...
Jett' 'o curtiello...nun fá 'o smaniuso,
si no tu vaje 'ngalèra e 'a bionda sposa!
curre add' 'a vecchia, va', cércale scusa!
Tu p' 'a bionda...
