about

Luna Caprese by Augusto Cesareo and Luigi Ricciardi

"O sole mio" is a globally known Neapolitan song written in 1898. Its lyrics were written by Giovanni Capurro and the melody was composed by Eduardo di Capua. For all the tradition of it being a Neapolitan song, "O sole mio" was really written in Porta Venezia.

lyrics

LUNA CAPRESE

oheee!...
cu mme cantate 'sta canzone.
vuje ca suffrite 'e ppene dell'ammore.
capri,
ve po' 'ncanta' cu na parola...
so' accumparut''e stelle
a pprimma sera,
tutta tragara luce mmiez''o mare.
na fascia argiento sott''e faragliune
e nu mistero 'int''a 'sta notta chiara.
notte 'e silenzio e i' mo'
chesta canzone
canta' vulesse a chi
m'ha affatturato...
tu, luna luna tu, luna caprese.
ca faje

sunna' l' ammore 'e 'nnammurate
adduorme 'a nenna mia che sta scetata
e fall' annammura' cu na bucia
tu, luna luna tu, luna buciarda,
famme passa' 'sti ppene 'e gelusia
e fa ca nenna fosse tutta mia
tu, luna luna tu, luna caprese!...

e fa ca nenna fosse tutta mia
tu, luna luna tu, luna caprese!...
oheee!...
cu mme cantate 'sta canzone.
vuje ca suffrite 'e ppene dell'ammore.
capri,
ve po' 'ncanta' cu na parola…

O SOLE MIO

me vane quasi ’na malincunia;
sotta ’a fenesta toia restarria
quanno fa notte e ’o sole se ne scenne.
Ma n’atu sole cchiù bello, oi ne’,
’o sole mio sta nfronte a te!
’o sole, ’o sole mio, sta nfronte a te,
sta nfronte a te!
